Apple enters the “Terns era”: Cook hands over the reins but doesn’t retire

Apple’s new CEO, Steve Turner, has only recently taken the helm and is already preparing to further explore the App Store’s profit potential. However, this strategy appears to be one of the reasons why veteran Phil Schiller is stepping down. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed that Turner, head of services Eddy Cue, wants to increase the App Store’s profit margin and generate more recurring revenue from the platform; Schiller, however, worries that doing so will only further anger developers and governments, and therefore doesn’t want to get involved.

Schiller, 66, has long been responsible for the App Store and Apple’s product launches. Gurman points out that Schiller isn’t retiring because of age; he’s relinquishing control of a very important, very profitable, and very difficult-to-manage aspect of Apple’s business.
