On the Russia-Ukraine battlefield, there are so-called “kill zones” where soldiers venturing out of cover risk being killed by drones within minutes. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt warned in an interview with NBC News that the war is driving astonishing technological advancements, and such “kill zones” could rapidly expand.
Schmidt, who formerly chaired the U.S. National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence and advised the Pentagon, currently heads the rocket company Relativity Space and is assisting Ukraine in waging a technology-driven war against Russia. He noted that the conflict has become a testing ground for drone warfare; from Ukrainian towns draped in anti-drone netting to the Russian heartland vulnerable to strikes by Kyiv, drones have emerged as the defining weapon of this war.
