Landlord stunned upon entering vacant, newly renovated property intended for rent—finds 60 strangers throwing a party

A Southern California homeowner who had just finished renovating his property—and was preparing to welcome his first tenant—returned to the house to retrieve some tools, only to discover about 60 strangers throwing a party inside. Although he identified himself as the owner and demanded that everyone leave, the party did not end immediately. Once the crowd finally dispersed, they left behind a trail of destruction: a door kicked in, paint splattered about, and equipment damaged. The owner estimates the losses to exceed $3,000, and his plans to rent out the property have now been delayed.

According to NBC News, the incident occurred on the night of the 10th at a vacant house on Parkdale Avenue in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego. The property had recently undergone renovations and was listed for rent, though no tenants had moved in yet.

Fearing retaliation, the homeowner—who used the pseudonym “Ryu” during his interview—recounted that he arrived at the house around 9:30 p.m. to collect some leftover paint and tools, only to find a large group of teenagers and young adults gathered there. Despite the heavy rain outside, the garage and side yard were packed with people, standing shoulder-to-shoulder.

Ryu stated that he loudly identified himself as the owner and ordered everyone to leave, but his demands went unheeded. He described feeling completely helpless as he waited outside for about two hours after calling the police, watching as strangers occupied his property.

According to Ryu, some individuals climbed onto an outdoor hose reel, broke a bathroom window to gain entry, and then opened the doors to let others in. By the time police arrived, most of the partygoers had already fled; officers searched the premises but made no arrests.

Upon closer inspection, Ryu discovered that the home—which he had worked so hard to renovate—had been left in a state of disrepair: a door had been kicked in, paint had been splattered in the front room, windows were shattered, and even the smoke detectors had been destroyed. He estimates the repair costs will exceed $3,000, forcing him to address the damage before he can proceed with signing a lease for the property. Ryu explained that the home renovations were carried out for the sake of his family; seeing the results destroyed left him feeling angry, disheartened, and disrespected. However, as a parent himself, he did not place the entire blame on the young people who attended the party, suggesting instead that such behavior is linked to the upbringing they received at home.
